Team Lodal wins the Doubles title in Doha

Rafael Nadal quickly bounced back from the disappointment of losing to Nikolay Davydenko in the singles semi-finals by teaming up with fellow Spaniard Marc Lopez to win the doubles title at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open for the second time. The third seeds defeated Italian duo Daniele Bracciali and Andreas Seppi 6-3, 7-6(4) in the final on Friday.

Nadal and Lopez also won the Doha crown in 2009 by defeating Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic to claim their first ATP World Tour doubles title together on their team debut. The pair then added to their tally with victory at last year’s BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, again defeating Nestor and Zimonjic.

The Spanish duo endured a slightly slow start to the final as Lopez’s serve was broke in the first game. They hit back strongly from 0-2, though, reeling off five straight games before closing out the one-set lead. Six service breaks were then exchanged in a competitive second set, before Lopez and Nadal clinched victory in the deciding tie-break after one hour and 33 minutes.

The 24-year-old Nadal won the seventh ATP World Tour doubles title of his career, making it four straight years that he has won a doubles title. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Lopez improved to a 5-2 record in ATP World Tour doubles finals.

Bracciali and Seppi were bidding for their first ATP World Tour doubles trophy together in just their third team outing. The 32-year-old Bracciali dropped to a 2-2 mark in ATP World Tour finals, while the 26-year-old Seppi dropped to a 0-4 record.
